David has been on the planet for 3 years and he hasn’t heard from earth for over 2 years.
He’s been growing his own plant food in the pink greenhouse which came on the ship that brought him here. He tends the plants with his bare hands, they are delicate and his only form of food source.
But he has to return home to earth, it was going through problems when he left and he doesn’t know what it will be like when he gets home. He walks across the landscape to the radio post, it’s the only place that transmissions will work.
He’s received a message from his brother, the first one in years. All it says is ‘David come home’. He holds the ticker tape message in his hand and reads it over and over again.
He decides he must go home.
He steers his ship through space and the controls and lights of the ship reflect in his space helmet visor.
The journey took 6 months and his beard and hair had grown. He crash landed in a forest on earth and had to walk a long way to get to civilisation.
He slept in a tumble down farm building for the night.
When he wakes up in the morning, he walked to the edge of a mountain and looked out over the beautiful landscape.
He had to cross a train track and stopped to look at it going to the distance and wondered where it led to.
He walked along it for a little while and ended up in a small village.
There is no-one around so he went inside a church, this was the only door that was open to him.
A priest came in, and he fell onto his knees and cried in his arms to see his first human face after such a long time.
He is still a long way from home but continues his journey to get home.
He finds a way into an abandoned factory and decides to sleep there for the night. It’s quiet and there are other people there doing the same so he keeps warm around a fire with them. He knows he doesn’t have far to go so the next day, he gets up and he makes it to his brothers house.
He lives on a rough estate and most of the people have left, there are only a few families living here now. The streets are peppered with Police in black masks and helmets and there are fires burning in the street.
He gets to his brothers’ house. He is sitting on the doorstep as if he is waiting for him.
They embrace one another warmly, hugging in the sunset and David is home at last.
